Abergavenny Nursery was founded by Kate Walsh and Lee Walsh with a shared vision: to create exceptional early years environments where children, families and staff feel valued, supported and inspired to thrive.
As a family-run nursery, we are proud to be trusted by families across Abergavenny, Llanfoist, Govilon, Gilwern and the wider Monmouthshire community. Through strong relationships with local schools, community organisations and partner agencies, we recognise the vital role early years education plays in building the foundations for lifelong learning.
Kate brings over 18 years of experience in Foundation Phase and Early Years education, specialising in Reception teaching and supporting children as they transition into school.
Having spent many years on the receiving side of that transition, Kate has a deep understanding of what enables children to flourish as they enter the classroom. She has seen first-hand how high-quality early years experiences shape children’s confidence, independence, communication, emotional wellbeing, resilience and readiness to learn.
The nurturing, individual approach that families often comment on is central to our practice. Parents consistently tell us how well staff know their children, how valued they feel, and how supported they are throughout their child’s early years journey. Building genuine, trusting relationships with every child and family continues to shape our nursery culture.
Lee is the nursery’s Responsible Individual, bringing extensive leadership, governance, audit and compliance experience from senior roles across both the public and private sectors.
His role is to ensure that children, families and staff benefit from strong leadership, effective governance, robust safeguarding arrangements and a culture of continuous improvement. Together, Kate and Lee bring a unique combination of educational expertise and organisational leadership, ensuring consistently high standards across all aspects of nursery life.
This commitment to quality and reflective practice is evident in both our inspection outcomes and the positive feedback we receive from families. During our CIW inspection, inspectors recognised that children were safe, supported and settled within a nurturing, well-organised environment, reinforcing the strong foundations of our provision.
At Abergavenny Nursery and Abergavenny Nursery Too!, we believe school readiness is about far more than academic knowledge. It is about supporting children to become:
By working in close partnership with families and placing children’s wellbeing at the centre of everything we do, we create environments where children feel happy, secure and ready to take their next steps with confidence.
Today, this commitment is reflected in our 4.89/5 family satisfaction score and the fact that 100% of families would recommend us to others — something we are incredibly proud of.
